Operations

Terrestrial surveillance

Since 2005, CAE-AVIATION has been carrying out terrestrial surveillance missions for different governmental agencies and NGOs. Our crews consist of 3 to 4 people and our aircraft can accommodate liaison officers on board. For such missions, our aircraft are equipped with the following:

  • A sensor that varies according to the aircraft used: either MX15 HD or MX 20 HD.
  • These sensors can be used by day or night.
  • Image transmission capability in real-time and high definition.
  • A WALI (Wide Angle Laser Illuminator) offering target illumination on the ground. All of our sensors are equipped with a WALI.
  • A TELEPHONICS RDR 1400 or 1700 search radar.
  • A Vision Map camera which can also be used in any aircraft equipped with a camera hatch.
  • All of our aircraft include a Moving Map with AIS capability and a recorder.
  • Our aircraft are also equipped for electromagnetic surveys.

Day-to-day activities

Our common activities include border control, illegal immigration control, counter-trafficking, assistance to peacekeeping operations and internal security operations.

Maritime surveillance

Since 1986, CAE-AVIATION has been carrying out maritime surveys with turbine engine aircraft (single and multi-engine) and, since 2007, has equipped those aircraft dedicated to maritime surveys with WESCAM sensors. Our crews consist of 3 to 4 people and our aircraft can accommodate liaison officers on board. For such missions, our aircrafts are equipped with the following:
  • A sensor that varies according to the aircraft used: either MX15 HD, MX20 SD or MX 20HD. These sensors can be used by day or night.
  • A WALI (Wide Angle Laser Illuminator) offering target illumination on the ground. All our sensors are equipped with a WALI.
  • A TELEPHONICS RDR 1400 or 1700 search radar.
  • A Vision Map camera which can also be used in any aircraft equipped with a camera hatch.
  • All our aircraft include a Moving Map with AIS capability and a recorder.

Day-to-day activities

Our most common maritime activities are anti-piracy patrols, illegal immigration control, counter-trafficking and fishery control.

Wildfires

Since 2005, CAE-AVIATION occasionally carried out detection and monitoring of forest fires. Since 2009, we have been carrying out these missions seasonally for different organisations dealing with forest fires. Our crews consist of 3 to 4 people and our aircraft can accommodate liaison officers on board. For such missions, our aircraft are equipped with the following:
  • An MX15 HD sensor. This sensor can be used by day or night.
  • A WALI (Wide Angle Laser Illuminator) offering target illumination on the ground. All of our sensors are equipped with a WALI.
  • Ground image transmission capability in real-time and high definition. In order to cover large areas of land, transmissions relays can be installed at various strategic points. These allow, for example, coverage of a whole department.
  • Mobile receiver stations able to receive transmissions up to 30km in line of sight.
  • Image streaming capability over the Internet, and the possibility of transmitting these images to a smartphone.

During these missions, the aircraft can also be used to check pollution levels, search for people or determine damage.
